Follow the Sun
Apple announced the ability to ‘true tone’ your HomeKit enabled lights at WWDC 2020 and this works a treat for devices with the built in capabilities, for the older devices or ones without the ability it leaves this option redundant.
As we all working for home in some sense, and without the generic office lighting flooding our desks, we can tweak our home set up to follow the hues and colours of the environment around use and give our eyes a well earned rest.
Running on a Mac with MacOS12 Monterey installed, Follow the Sun tracks the suns position and brightness and subsequently adjusts the brightness and temperature of your HomeKit enabled lights, especially as we switch seasons from later autumn to winter and daylight saving comes to an end. If you’re running Homebridge to bring none supported devices in to the HomeKit ecosystem the app also works with them.
For me I installed follow the sun along side Homebridge on an old 2017 Mac mini I use as home files server, content cache machine and Homebridge server. The free option allows you to control one room, but the options to control your house are cheap for this very powerful app.
