AirPods - Firmware 4 Released

A new firmware has been released for AirPods 2 / Pro and AirPods Max- with the catchy name 4A400.

The update release notes have not been released, but its likely to fix some bugs and introduce the iOS15 - Conversation Boost feature for Pro models.

How to check you’re AirPods Firmware Version

  1. Unlock your iOS Device

  2. Go to Settings

  3. Select General

  4. Select About

  5. Scroll all the way down to the bottom, and look for your AirPods - (Whatever you’ve named them) Select them.

  6. Here you’ll see

    1. Model Number

    2. Serial Number

    3. Firmware Version

    4. Hardware Version

You can also check the firmware model, from the bluetooth settings area and tapping the ‘i’ next to your AirPods name.


Unlike updating the software on your Mac or iOS device, there is no way to force the update to AirPods.

They’ll update over the air, when they’re connected to your iOS device, in the case which is connected to a power source.

The update should start after a short while.
